Advanced Action & Metallurgical Engineering

The engineering superiority of the Model 70 Super Grade category is rooted in the legendary Pre-’64 style bolt design that redefined hunting rifle performance for nearly a century. Utilizing a massive non-rotating claw extractor, the bolt engages the cartridge rim immediately as it rises from the magazine box, retaining positive physical control throughout feeding, chambering, and extraction. Unlike push-feed mechanisms that can induce disastrous double-feeds during rapid stress cycling, the Model 70 feeds reliably at any rifle orientation. A fixed blade ejector allows the shooter to control ejection force: smooth cycling drops spent brass neatly beside the action for handloaders, while aggressive strokes clear brass forcefully away from the optic.

From an ergonomic and field handling perspective, the Winchester Model 70 Super Grade French Walnut delivers an exceptionally balanced shooting platform tailored to diverse field conditions. The stock profile promotes natural cheek weld alignment, directing the shooter’s eye instantly down the optical center of mounted scopes. The free-floating button-rifled barrel is crowned to protect terminal rifling leade grooves, ensuring consistent gas dispersion as the bullet exits the bore. Equipped with the factory-tuned M.O.A. Trigger System operating on a 2:1.

To maintain the match-grade precision and mechanical longevity of the Winchester Model 70 Super Grade French Walnut, conscientious cleaning and preventative maintenance protocols should be observed. Following shooting sessions, clean the bore from the breech using a quality coated cleaning rod and brass jag to remove powder residues and copper fouling without touching the muzzle crown. Wipe down the barreled action and bolt assembly with a rust-inhibiting CLP oil, paying special attention to the dual locking lugs and bolt face. Store the rifle uncocked with the three-position safety disengaged inside a climate-controlled gun safe maintained at approximately 45% to 50% relative humidity with active desiccant protection.
